WILL DUTTA - DISTANCE

Will Dutta is one of those horrible talented people. You know, the type that sneezes incredible music. He's also one of the nicest chaps i've had the pleasure of meeting.

'Distance' is an incredible piece of music, that Will calls 'non classical'. His aims are to blend a mixture of modern classical with dance music. This is a co-lab with the Warp stalwart 'Plaid'.

Easy listening this is not, beautifully glitchy and complex cross rhythms dissect this 6 and a half minute musical marathon. Close your eyes and enjoy.

The lovely folks at The Quietus gave this an exclusive listen, and it's still available to listen to on their Soundcloud

WORSHIP - HOUSE OF GLASS

This single came out in december, showcasing Worship as ones to watch for 2012. I love this band, and the live show is incredible. I've heard people describe them as a 'Pop-Radiohead' wich I suppose isn't too far from the mark. However i'd just call them bloody great.

MAFIA LIGHTS - WEST

Mafia Lights are a hugely talented bunch from Surrey. They've been stalwarts of East London venues since 2008, consistently evolving and perfecting their craft. 'West' is a definite statement of what is to come. Beautifully glitchy warm soundscapes married with heartfelt vocals and sublime production. Thumbs up chaps. Thumbs up.

KWES

Kwes has been bubbling under since 2006, which is when I first met this remarkable artist/producer. While mucking about in the music store under the old Virgin Megastore on Oxford street in London, Kwes started playing a small keyboard, and un-prompted by me, played in it's entirety, a song i'd sent him by my own band at the time. Not a note was left out, from memory, he played every part. I was in Awe.

When you scratch a little deeper, Kwes becomes much more than a producer, he's a multi instrumentalist,  with almost superhuman hearing as well as Synaesthesia
As a Producer, Kwes has just finished Speech Debelles second record, as well as recently taking part in Damon Albarn's DRC project. As an artist, his debut is out on Warp this year, and has been tipped by many to breakthrough into the public consciousness. He recently took part in the Vice Producers series, which you can check out below.

Also find below one of his solo tracks, Canary.

Kwes is also playing the HMV NEXT BIG THING festival upstairs at The Garage in London alongside the previously STC featured Gang Colours. Details HERE

WASHED OUT

Welcome to the world of 'Chillwave', a movement arguably spearheaded by one man, Ernest Greene, also known as Washed Out.

He appeared on our radar back in 2010 with the arrival of their first 6 track release 'Life of Leisure', having only previously released a 200 copy run of tape cassettes with the title of 'High Times' in 2009. In our opinion, a superior work to their most recent full length 'Within and Without'. Although still a great record, it fails to live up to the analogue fuzziness of 'Life of Leisure'. Pulsating lo-fi gem's like 'Belong' and 'New Theory' punctuate an almost flawless release. Regardless, Washed Out are firm favorites here at STC, and we think they should be yours too.

GANG COLOURS - FANCY RESTAURANT

Southampton's very own Gang Colours (AKA Will Ozanne) has been teasing us now for a while, dropping beautiful tunes like Fancy Restaurant in preparation of his first full length release in February this year.
Released through Giles Petersons own Brownswood Records, 'The Keychain Collection' is set to continue Will's downbeat ambient electronica, tinged with heavy bass and dubstep inspired beats.
At times reminiscent of James Blake, but with an warmth more associated with producers such as Kwes and Bibio, Fancy Restaurant is a tantalizing glimpse into what's to come from this young producer.
